BARCA purchased farm 50-A in 2004 as part of its expansion into the Osa Peninsula in order to establish teak plantations for European investors. The farm originally measured 61.3 hectares, however, the company decided to segregate a section of pasture with a cottage and secondary forest, thus creating the farm known internally as Seg.50-A. BARCA dedicated itself to taking care of the forest and maintaining the trails that cross it, and grazing cattle in the 8 hectares of pasture.
