Pioneers of Reforestation in the Central and Southern Pacific of Costa Rica
Where environmental sustainability meets smart investment strategies
Our History: From Degraded Land to Thriving Ecosystems
Founded in 1994, BARCA emerged from a simple yet powerful vision: to transform Costa Rica's farmland into thriving forest ecosystems while creating valuable investment opportunities for conscious investors.
Our journey began when our founders witnessed the devastating effects of unsustainable farming practices. Where there were degraded farms, with depleted soil and biodiversity at risk, we saw potential.
For thirty years, we have perfected our reforestation methodology, working with leading Costa Rican forestry engineers and soil specialists. Our BIRDs Eco-plantations represent the culmination of this experience – each one is a testament to nature's incredible resilience when properly managed. We currently offer some properties for sale and want to help you in the acquisition of your future farm.
Mission and vision
BARCA's mission is to restore and add resilience to natural living systems in ways that improve communities and economies.
We aspire to a future where empowered communities work in harmony with nature.
Our vision is to be an international leader in reforestation and agroforestry projects, demonstrating that it is possible to cultivate environmental well-being and prosperity simultaneously.

History and achievements
BARCA began in 1994 with the dream of transforming degraded lands into vibrant productive ecosystems. Over the past few decades we have expanded our projects throughout Costa Rica, reforesting previously deforested areas and working closely with local communities. Every step of the way has reinforced our commitment to the environment and sustainable development, positioning us as a benchmark in the production of certified wood and the development of improved seedlings for successful reforestation. Reforested trees of both native species and teak (Tectona grandis) contribute to the more than 1,600,000,000 trees planted since 1970 by the Brinkman Group, most of which were planted in Canada.
Important milestones
- 1994-2000: Establishment of reforestation projects in the Central Pacific region of Costa Rica, planting more than 175 hectares of teak and native hardwood species, such as cristóbal, cocobolo/rosewood, pilón and others.
- 2001: BARCA advises clients on forest certification for the establishment and management of plantations, genetic improvement, and implementation of Chain of Custody Systems in general.
- 2002-2008: In order to fulfill a very large reforestation contract, BARCA begins to acquire the best land for teak planting in the Central and South Pacific regions of Costa Rica.
- 2015-2025: Harvest of teakwood in the South Pacific plantations, resulting in the availability of land for new projects, whether in agriculture, agroforestry or forestry.
Each milestone reflects our commitment to the environment and support for rural communities, showing that each reforestation project adds environmental and social value.
